With the election behind us, the 119th Congress is entering its lame duck session. Lawmakers are racing to finalize funding, pass must-do legislation and clear the decks before new members take their seats. For counties, these next few weeks are a critical window to shape what Congress does and to get our must-pass issues across the finish line.

Join NACo for an insightful briefing on the county priorities most likely to move before the 119th Congress ends, and learn how your voice can influence the outcome. This webinar will cover:

  • Current federal landscape: The key legislative priorities and deadlines for counties through the end of the 119th Congress
  • Policy background: Talking points and state of play for NACo's top lame duck policy priorities
  • Grassroots advocacy tactics: Timely, low-lift ways to reach your delegation during recess

County leaders will leave with a clear understanding of the landscape and concrete steps to make sure your county’s priorities are heard before the 119th Congress concludes.

NACo submits comments on Census Bureau's proposed rule on the 2030 decennial census

On September 10, the U.S Census Bureau published a proposed rule to the 2030 Decennial Census that would create two new parts of the 15 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) that among other changes would a) define “usual residence” that excludes foreign persons previously counted that are not U.S. citizens or lawful residents, and b) would eliminate any questions about race, ethnicity and sexual orientation from the census questionnaire used to enumerate the population. The proposed ruling outlines only 30 days for public comments, which are due on November 2.
