Managing County Workers: Recruitment, Retention and Retirement will be forthcoming
The first report, Counties and Cash: How to Improve the Management of Cash Transactions, is a summary of a training session at the NACo 2017 Western Interstate Region Conference. Clark County, Wash. Treasurer Doug Lasher and Cochise County, Ariz. Treasurer Cathy Traywick shared their insights, stories and advice on how to best handle cash transactions.
Service Sharing: How Counties Do More with Less examines how counties facing fiscal constraints collaborate to provide quality services to residents. Despite restrictions on their ability to raise revenue, less funding from federal and state governments, and increased state mandates, counties are finding new ways to continue delivering core services through sharing responsibilities with other entities. This report includes case studies from Marion County, Ill.; Rankin Co., Miss. and Erie County, N.Y.
Rounding out the reports is Managing County Workers: Recruitment, Retention and Retirement. This report highlights the major trends within the “three R’s” of workforce issues, and strategies counties are deploying to solve various challenges associated with these issues. Case studies in this report cover solutions on hiring a millennial work force in a competitive job market; transferring knowledge and succession planning in response to baby boomers retiring in large numbers; and retaining and engaging employees. Several counties participated in this report, including Franklin County, Ohio; Henrico County, Va.; Maricopa County, Ariz.; San Diego County, Calif. and Oneida County, Wis.
