By showcasing how county governments provide vital behavioral health services and resources and by advocating for key mental health reforms—including repealing harmful exclusionary Medicaid policies, bolstering local crisis response infrastructure, supporting the behavioral health workforce, and ensuring mental health parity—we can effect significant change.

Launched in February 2023, the NACo Commission on Mental Health and Wellbeing brings together county leaders from across the nation to take action to address the ever-growing mental health crisis from the county government perspective.

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training administered by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.

The mental health crisis in America is a dire situation that demands urgent attention.

NACo is partnering with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to create a peer-learning opportunity for rural county leaders to advance upward economic mobility to move individuals and families in their communities out of poverty. NACo will select 10 member counties with populations of less than 50,000 to be part of the new Rural Leaders for Economic Mobility (RLEM) cohort.
