About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

In 2014, Leon County developed a Workplace Sustainability Workshop Series to engage and educate employees about sustainable practices in the workplace. Since the development of this program, the Leon County Office of Sustainability has provided 12 workshops for departments and divisions throughout County government on topics including waste reduction and recycling, resource conservation best practices at work, details about the Office of Sustainability’s current programs, available resources, and more. The County also provides a condensed version of workplace sustainability training during monthly New Employee Orientation sessions. The Workplace Sustainability Workshop Series also provides an opportunity for employees to learn about the County’s existing sustainability programs. By developing “champions” of the County’s sustainability initiatives in each work area, this program also fosters innovation among staff and encourages employees to seek new opportunities to implement sustainable workplace practices.
