Year: 2021

The Maricopa County Workforce Development Division (WDD) training team offers employment related workshops to support jobseekers in attaining their career goals. Prior to the pandemic, WDD offered the Maricopa County public high-quality, job seeker training workshops within the walls of the East Valley and West Valley Career Centers and by delivering workshops in person to locations requested by community partners. With the onset of COVID-19, and in response to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) safety guidelines, WDD leadership implemented social distancing while reducing the number of employees and public accessing services in house. Consequently, in order to continue to provide participants needed workshops, it was required the trainer team pivot away from traditional in-person delivery and move to creating and providing virtual workshops. The key to the WDD Training Program Pivot to Virtual Services includes 3 essential steps: 1. Procuring a secure and cost-effective virtual instruction delivery platform; 2. Converting workshop materials to a virtual delivery model while adjusting in scope and size to meet virtual learner engagement attention capabilities; and 3. Including systems to capture attendance and completion to maintain tracking of required service outcome measurements.
