The Weekend Warrior Snack Pack Program provides snacks for children during the summer months. The objective of the Weekend Warrior Snack Pack Program is to provide healthy nutritional food for food insecure children over the weekend during the summer while schools are closed. The snack packs are given out every Friday at 5 locations that corollate with the Howard County Public School summer lunch sites. Any child 18 years old or younger is able to obtain a snack pack after an initial survey is completed. The program began in 2017 distributing 1,191 snack packs and has had substantial increases in its distribution the following two years. The program increased its distribution from 2017 to 2018 by 1,012 snack packs and from 2018 to 2019 by 676 snack packs. Overall, the program has had a 141% increase over the three year period. The program is administered by the Howard County Office of Community Sustainability in partnership with the Howard County Department of Community Resources, Local Childrenâs Board, Howard County Public School System and Howard Public Library.
