Water Safety Day is a free event that takes place just as outdoor pools in the area are opening for the summer. This collaboration between Montgomery County Recreation, the City of Gaithersburg and the City of Rockville, is a way to share important water safety tips, and talk about the various programs and services available to help kids and adults stay safe at the pool all summer long. Families with children of all ages enjoy a day of swimming while also learning about life-saving precautions they can take in and around public and private or residential pools. During the event, attendees can watch water rescue demonstrations, have their swimming skills evaluated, visit information booths to learn about safety measures, and kids are encouraged to sign a water safety pledge. There are periods of free swim that ensure the event is fun and also allows participants a chance to practice what they are learning.
