About the Program
Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)
Year: 2011
As the fifth largest water utility in the United States, which serves more than 2.1 million customers daily, the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD) is committed to serving the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors by providing high-quality drinking water, while providing for future demand via planning and water conservation measures. This must be accomplished while safeguarding public health, the environment, and providing continual improvements in the process and cost efficiencies of the organization. WASD has implemented many conservation programs with quantifiable results that are well received by the public. Their buy-in has led to larger than anticipated water usage reductions. Consumers are urged to conserve water, which helps the environment, but also as a way to save money on their bills. The programs presented for consideration include the High Efficiency Showerhead Exchange, Multi-Unity Retrofit Program, high Efficiency Toilet Rebate program, Senior and Low-Income Retrofit Program and Landscape Irrigation Evaluations and Rebate program.
