The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RRCC) strives to stay on the forefront of providing services to a diverse population through it Voters with Specific Needs Program. Various services are provided not only to meet legal requirements but to continually improve the voting experience for every voter. The VWSNP is the first comprehensive program in the nation to address issues for both “multi-lingual” voters and “voters with disabilities”. Services for voters with specific needs are mandated by federal and state law but are unfunded. The VWSNP maximizes partnerships with community organizations, schools, businesses, and individuals to provide best practices in government service with limited staff, budget and other resources. The Voters with Specific Needs video is a training tool the RRCC developed and implemented in the pollworker training program. The training video contains vignettes in 5, 10, and 25 minute lengths featuring non-actors and community activists in real scenarios. In keeping with ADA compliance and mandates from the Secretary of State of California, this video provides all of the necessary tools when encountering persons with specific disabilities. Furthermore, it’s a video that truly reflects the partnership of a government entity and the community it serves.
