To enhance the effectiveness of desktop administration, upgrade working conditions of employees, and improve operational efficiency, Wayne County implemented a Virtualized Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Virtualized desktop technology allows the user access to a virtual desktop from any device running either a current or non-current Windows or MAC platform from any location. Unlike a traditional desktop environment where the PC applications and user files are stored on a local workstation, virtual desktop applications and files are stored in a server. Since VDI is centrally managed and runs on a high-availability infrastructure, initial set up and deployment is less time consuming than it is for a PC and the security of desktop data is assured. In the event of a disaster, a new virtual desktop instance can be rapidly deployed from our secure datacenter and the restoration of both data and desktop applications are performed with no loss of user data.
