According to the National Center for Veteran Analysis and Statistics, as of September 30, 2016, the state of Maryland was the home of approximately 415,000 veterans. Of those veterans, approximately 53,000 live in Baltimore County. It was unclear whether those veterans were aware of the benefits they could be collecting or of the programs available to support them with their employment, healthcare or rehabilitation needs or if there were aware of the fact that the County has a designated effort dedicated to assisting them with the collection of these benefits. In partnership with the HomeFront Committee of Baltimore County, Baltimore County Department of Aging created an annual Veteran Muster for past and present service men and women in our region to highlight support services available. The Veteran Muster is a two-day event held in conjunction with our Power of Age Expo each year to provide a connection of resources to veterans. In addition, the partnership developed a wallet card that debuted at the event and has continued to be distributed throughout the area to summarize the veteran resources in the area. The Veteran Outreach initiative couldn't have been accomplished without the successful partnerships with County agencies, private companies and non-profits.
