The San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector conducts an annual public oral auction of tax-defaulted properties for the purpose of collecting the defaulted taxes. There are many statutory noticing requirements that prescribe when and how property owners are notified of the sale and their right to redeem the property prior to the day of sale. Statute also requires that legal advertising in a local paper of general circulation be made that announces the date, time, and location of the sale, and that provides a list of the properties to be offered at the sale. The San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector has designed a Tax Sale Booklet for circulation that attracts a pool of prospective bidders and provides them with information and instruction on what is being offered at the sale, how to participate as a bidder, and the requirements of successful purchasers. One of the most important aspects of the Tax Sale is that bidders be well-informed about the properties because all sales are final once a bid is won. The booklet is designed to inform the public in an easy format that not only compels them to attend the sale but also assists them in their research before bidding a property.
