The Mecklenburg County DSS and numerous other community entities have collaborated as a means of serving youth transitioning into adulthood. IN an effort to address the gaps in services for this population, partnerships have been established and nurtured over several years in the County. Through the efforts of these interested parties, a true community-based approach has come to fruition. Results of these collaborative partnerships include: a one-stop transition recourse center, mentoring programs, proposals for housing, community forums, and development of a community Steering committee to address the needs of all community youth and strengthened relationships among providers in the community. Many growing pains have been experienced during the evolution of these collaborative partnerships in Mecklenburg County. While the resources are plentiful in some areas, the partners were required to learn how to work together effectively as well.
