The Transit Transitional Employment Pilot Program (TTE) was created as an employment pathway to hire eligible candidates for full-time employment with Broward County. Of the 24 candidates that began the TTE program, seven candidates were recommended for employment, and two successfully met all criteria and accepted full-time employment with Broward County. This program provides job training and employment opportunities to ex-offenders, persons with a disability, and residents of the Broward Municipal Services District, (BMSD), the unincorporated areas within Broward County, Florida. This area possesses many socioeconomic factors that have created challenges for its residents to find gainful employment. TTE successfully fulfilled a gap with targeted populations by overcoming employment barriers. The County partnered with two local nonprofit agencies, Opportunities Industrialization Centers of South Florida (OIC) and ARC Broward, to provide valuable job training programs to residents seeking employment to provide supplemental cleaning of the County’s fleet of buses. TTE has offered residents who had a difficult time finding employment a “Sense of Pride and Accomplishment” while improving the satisfaction of the transit system riders
