Pickens County employees led a county wide anti-litter initiative to “Team Up and Clean Up” Pickens County! It was such a success we have committed to making this an annual event. On March 23, 2018, Pickens County offices closed and employees traded their normal job duties for hitting the streets to pick up trash from roadways in Pickens County. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of employees who were eligible to participate signed up. Additionally, all of County Council participated, along with state delegation, the South Carolina Department of Transportation, local municipalities, community groups, churches and business organizations. 17.31 tons of trash was collected from county roadways! An employee pep-rally was held the afternoon before and prizes were given away. In addition to preparing for our Sesquicentennial Celebration, this was also the kick-off of our “Five on Friday’ initiative. Based on our county population, if everyone picks up 5 pieces of trash on Fridays, we can collect a half ton of trash every Friday. It was Abraham Lincoln who said “l like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him”. Pickens County employees showed their home town pride with Team Up and Clean Up, and our place…Pickens County…is certainly proud of its employees!
