Category: Libraries (Best in Category)

Year: 2021

LA County Library’s virtual programming is a system-wide multi-division strategy to deliver thoughtful, impactful, cohesive Library offerings digitally, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and onward. Library staff quickly pivoted, retooling existing technology and work roles to continue integral programming while libraries are closed. Weekly pre-recorded videos and live interactive events offer programs for all ages and interests, and a way for customers to access essential resources, education, and connection with their communities. Though programming covers a wide breadth—from STEAM, to cultural history, to book talks—specialized resources were created for targeted populations, addressing the impacts of the pandemic to their lives. The Parent-Ade series covers topics related to the challenges of distance learning, while Work Ready helps those looking for new jobs or ways to build job skills in a virtual setting. Virtual Programming has facilitated unique partnerships such as those made with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, La Brea Tar Pits, Edison International, American Red Cross, TechGirlz, other LA County Departments, and more. Leveraging communication platforms like YouTube, Cisco Webex, and Facebook Live, the Library has developed over 600 virtual programs since March 2020, with more added daily, and attendees steadily growing.
