Year: 2014
Baltimore County Department of Aging (BCDA or Agency) developed a year-long "Strengthening Lives" for older adults to highlight the importance of empowering oneself with tools and resources to live life to the fullest. Throughout the year, individuals were offered the opportunity to participate in a range of informative offerings, including an Expo, publications, health screenings and seminars, geared to optimizing the physical and mental well-being of the Countyâs older residents. "Strengthening Lives" Educational Sessions: topics which were presented to older adults in the county's 20 senior centers included Osteoporosis, Fall Prevention, Self Defense, Memory Loss, Stroke Smarts, Eat Smart, Live Strong, Heart Smart Seniors, Advance Directives, Ten Rules for Grandparenting, screenings such as vision, hearing, blood pressure, balance, kidney, cholesterol, glucose, bone density, oral cancer, depression and BMI. The "Strengthening Lives" initiative could not have been accomplished without the successful partnerships with County agencies, private companies and non-profits.
