The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an evidence based family skills training program that improves parenting skills and family relationships, reduces problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children while improving school performance. Wilson County Department of Social Services utilizes SFP as one component of our comprehensive child maltreatment prevention programming. Parents and children participate in SFP, both separately and together. Family sessions allow practice for what they have learned through experiential experience. Transportation, child care, meals and participant incentives are provided. We provide the program to Spanish speaking families, as this has been identified as a need in our community. A community advisory council comprised of multidisciplinary stakeholders provides guidance regarding referrals and programming.
