About the Program
Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)
Year: 2016
The Economic Crimes Bureau of Miami-Dade Police Department in Miami-Dade County, Florida was in need of a computer based solution in order to manage cases involving offenders illegally occupying foreclosed private properties within the unincorporated portions of the county. The illegal occupants otherwise known as squatters became a big concern to the law enforcement officials with the rise of private foreclosures in the county. A case management tool that could capture pertinent information about a foreclosed property and the squatter(s) would be immensely useful when a police officer responds to a 911 call involving a possible squatter situation. The program should be able to search current owner(s), lien holder(s) and any property manager(s) associated with the property. The program should help to track case specific information including but not limited to relevant arrests and/or trespass warning(s) in addition to identifying repeat offenders if applicable. A detective should then be able to follow the case lifecycle from removing the offender(s) from the property all the way to the case closure. The application connects to the countywide foreclosure database, verifies the property location against the countyâs geographical information system in addition to automatically populating time saving case information from the police computer aided dispatch system.
