Leon County’s Division of Tourism Development annually provides Tourist Development Tax (TDT) funding to organizations coordinating events that have either a history of or significant potential for attracting visitors to the area. These funds are distributed through the Special Event Grant Program, which is administered by the Leon County Division of Tourism Development. Recommendations for funding are made by citizen advisory committees including the Leon County Tourist Development Council (TDC) Special Event Grant Review Committee and the Tallahassee Sports Council. The Grant Program supports the growth and success of special events as well as attracting and nurturing new events in the area. Ultimately the Program encourages overnight visitation to Tallahassee and Leon County by funding these events that draw tens of thousands of visitors and millions of dollars to our community. The online grant application is a new feature of the Grant Program that addresses several key factors in the grant process. The online grant application provides an easily followed, step-by-step process for the applicants and allows for the development of consistent and concise reports for evaluating each grant application. Furthermore, the improvements to the program have increased efficiency in managing of massive amounts of data which has eliminated staff time spent on data entry. The result is a far more efficient program that has saved considerable taxpayer dollars annually.
