The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library provides free access to information and ideas and, through its collection and online resources, serves as an important center for lifelong learning. To provide opportunities to learn about and commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War and to present Southwest Virginia’s role, the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library successfully applied to the Virginia Historical Society to host “An American Turning Point: The Civil War in Virginia” at the Christiansburg Library in September 2011. The Library also successfully applied to host the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission’s Civil War 150 HistoryMobile, an interactive museum-on-wheels that came to the Library on October 10, 2011. In conjunction with these two exhibitions, the Library drew on the expertise of residents of Montgomery County to offer a series of programs for all ages and created a display specifically designed for children.
