Year: 2017
More than 3.8 million Arizona residents rely on the Flood Control District of Maricopa County (the District) to keep their homes and properties safe from massive flooding. The District takes its mission seriously to reduce the flooding risk. The District is responsible for 22 dams, 21 levees and more than 4000 miles of delineated floodplains. This is precisely why the Drainage Design Management System for Windows 5.3.0 (DDMSW) software development project was initiated in March 2015. DDMSW is the most important hydrologic and river mechanic software package in Maricopa County and it follows Maricopa Countyâs latest Drainage Design Manuals (Hydrology and Hydraulics). It is used by the consulting firms, District staff, private sector engineers, local municipalities, state and federal agencies for hydrologic studies, river mechanic studies, floodplain delineation, watercourse master plans, dam rehabilitation, levee projects, and permit applications etc. With so much on the line, accuracy is paramount. An updated and bug-free DDMSW is crucial to the District and the safety of the public. A Software Testing Program was successfully developed and implemented to test DDMSW 5.3.0 from April 2015 to March 2016. As part of the software Testing Program, a large number of datasets, checklists, and testing methods were developed and organized systematically and used in the successful development of DDMSW 5.3.0. The Testing Program led to the release of DDMSW 5.3.0 on April 12, 2016. From April 12, 2016 to January 1, 2017, there were 613 software downloads from the web site and DDMSW 5.3.0 has been used for many projects throughout Maricopa County and can be used throughout the country and world. DDMSW 5.3.0 has proven to be the leading public domain engineering software in the nation.
