Boulder County Department of Housing & Human Services (HHS) created a SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Outreach Plan to ensure that all residents in Boulder County have access to education and enrollment in the Food Assistance (SNAP) public assistance program. The outreach plan was created in partnership with local community partners, all of who have residents accessing their local food pantry, but who have not enrolled in the SNAP program. HHS and our partners understand that enrollment into the SNAP program is one of the simplest ways to help lead families to food security. The outreach plan focused on three core components: understanding barriers to enrollment, decreasing the number of food insecure individuals, and reducing SNAP program churn. The biggest impact of the SNAP Outreach Plan was the use of data to reach eligible but not enrolled residents to encourage enrollment into the SNAP program. HHS used data sharing agreements with five community partners to reach those in our community who are eligible and not enrolled. The SNAP outreach project has been a huge success for our community because we have deepened relationships with partners who share our passion, formed a collaborative body locally and become a role model for other counties for outreach and enrollment activities.
