San Diego County Library partnered with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to create a storefront Sheriff’s office inside the Vista Branch Library with two primary goals. The first was a desire to improve relations and collaboration between the Sheriff’s department and the community. Library Director Jose Aponte and Vista’s Sherriff Commander Ed Prendergast were working with the North Carolina Anti-Gang Task Force to lead the way to positive change. They agreed that an office in the Library would be convenient for both the community and officers and would allow for positive interactions leading to crime prevention.
