The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s goal of putting more positive ID data at the fingertips of officers in the field has been realized by the “Mobile Photo ID” project. The department has deployed a system that retrieves data and photos from both California Department of Motor Vehicles and Department of Justice files. It is specifically designed for use with Mobile Data Computers operating in all patrol and command vehicles and communicating with Sheriff’s data center via the Sheriff’s private 800 MHZ high-performance wide area data network.
