About the Program

Category: Civic Education and Public Information (Best in Category)

Year: 2018

Riverside County Department of Environmental Health (Department) developed a video production function within the Special Projects Program to produce short Public Service Announcement videos (PSAs) in-house to raise public awareness of imminent and dangerous public health issues. With the assistance of various grants and minimal Department funding, this program has produced 30 videos since inception on January 12, 2015. Powerfully engaging videos are produced to educate the community about potential diseases and health risks, and how to take precautions and measures to avoid them. When merely reading about critical issues, the severity of these potentially devastating consequences may not come off the page and impress the reader to the fullest extent possible. Since the majority of the population are visual learners, the use of short informative videos have proven successful in capturing the attention of the community and enhancing their level of understanding of these public health risks.
