The Store was completed over a single weekend by one staff member from the Purchasing Department. Items provided in the Store include masks, gowns, gloves, cleaning and disinfecting supplies, infrared thermometers, signage, and much more. The urgent need for supplies was apparent when over $57,000 in PPE was sold in the first 24 hours alone.Initially, the Store provided PPE at the Countyâs cost only to eligible partners. However, the customer base soon expanded at the behest of County management to include local cities, towns, and school districts. Both pickup and shipping options are available. San Bernardino County Purchasing Departmentâs buyers continue to procure sold out items within the Store. By the end of February 2021, 598 customers had completed 1,078 transactions for a total of over $431,000 in sales. The objective of the San Bernardino County Online COVID Store was to provide local businesses, non-profit organizations, cities, towns, and school districts with the personal protective equipment and other COVID related products that would best meet their needs. Due to the expanding pandemic, its quick set up was vital. With 598 customers so far, the Store has been an invaluable tool to keep those local entities open as well as keep both their staff and their own customers safe from COVID-19. Over $431,000 in products have been bought by local organizations. The County has no plans to shut down the Store in the near future. As evidenced by our returning customers, some with as many as ten orders, the Store has provided and continues to provide a useful service. The San Bernardino County Online COVID Store provides a valuable public service while also mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It assists local businesses, non-profit organizations, cities, towns, and school districts to procure personal protective equipment (PPE) and other COVID related products at a lower cost than they could find on their own. It was set up quickly as its customersâ needs were urgent.
