Safety, Nutrition, Activity, and Care for Kids (SNACK) is a Maricopa County program that works with child care centers to improve the health and safety of children, infant to five years old, through child passenger safety, access to services, and activity and nutrition. SNACK works with child care centers to provide classes on child passenger safety for parents and caregivers and provides car seats to those in need. SNACK provides child care staff with the opportunity to become nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians through intensive training at no charge to them. The County further reaches the families in its community by hosting several free car seat check events to educate the public and help ensure kids ride safely in the car. Dietitians and Health Educators work in partnership with child care centers to improve their physical activity and nutrition environment. Centers are trained on an award-winning curriculum that uses the senses and imagination to help take the mystery out of food and to get children moving called ‘Color Me Healthy.’ A bi-lingual Social Worker attends events and visits centers to work with families to help access available services such as dental, mental, and medical care.
