Dinwiddie County covers a vast 504 square miles. While the County has a robust menu of parks and recreation offerings, most are physically located in the northern, more densely populated area of Dinwiddie. County leaders recognized the need to expand offerings to the McKenney area, which is in the southernmost portion of the County. Dinwiddie County received the generous donation of a building in the Town of McKenney and seized an opportunity to expand Parks, Recreation and Tourism in a facility that would benefit citizens of all ages for many years to come. With the support of local funding, grant funding and donations from the community, the Robert and Betty Ragsdale Community Center opened its doors on May 2, 2017, and quickly became the much-needed hub for recreation in the previously underserved area.
