On October 2, 2017, Montgomery County Ride On, local bus service, implemented a new limited stop service along MD 355, one of its highest ridership corridors. This limited stop service is the first type to be implemented in Montgomery County. The Ride On extRa is uniquely named to emphasize the added amenities and features of the bus. This new service puts Montgomery County Department of Transportation on track as a multi-modal transportation system by offering a myriad of choices in a four- tier plan. The four tiers include local bus service, capital bikeshare, limited stop service and Bus Rapid Transit service. Currently, Ride On Transit operates 78 local routes throughout the county providing peak hour, rush hour only, shuttle routes and now limited stop service. Ride On extRa buses are equipped with Transit Signal Priority (TSP), extra padded seating, free WiFi access, USB charging ports and infotainment monitors to keep riders abreast with the current events related to transit. There are 12 distinctly designed bus stops in each direction along MD 355. These bus stops are equipped with full size monitors to provide real time information, benches, waste receptacles and mosaic medallions. The highlight is our partnership with Arts on the Block, a non-profit organization, to design various mosaic artwork at each stop. This partnership has become a rewarding experience for the County and for these young and aspiring artists.
