The Broward Water Resources Task Force was established through joint resolutions of Broward County government, the Broward League of cities, and the regional Water Management District to identify and evaluate opportunities for meeting regional water supply needs and water conservation goals. The community recognized that escalating population growth, significant changes in regional water policy, and major capital investments warranted consideration of the cost-benefits and efficiencies of a regional approach. Through monthly meetings, the task Force considered the diverse water supply challenges facing the region, including climate change, and developed recommendations in e areas of water conservation, wastewater reuse, regional alternative water supply projects, and technical investigations. Key to the process was the participation of elected leadership, governmental agencies, technical staff, and the private sector. Significant milestones have since been achieved including county-wide water conservation program; and funding for a county-wide reuse master plan. These joint initiatives are a testimony to the effectiveness of the task Force in advancing critical water resource initiatives of a regional scale and benefit, and serve as a foundation for continued intergovernmental cooperation in future water resource planning, development, and management.
