Ranchos of San Diego County was published by the Department of Parks and Recreation to offer the public exciting information about early-Californian ranchos and to instill a greater appreciation for the region’s historic treasures. The book also provides a valuable tool for the DPR’s History Education Program to assist County staff in their efforts to preserve historic structures, manage archaeological sites, create exhibits and displays, and develop exciting interpretive programs for the public. This publication, produced at minimal expense, required no additional staff and generates revenue to fund the County’s History Education Program. It is strategically displayed and sold at several different parks, including historic ranchos which are featured in the book.
