About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

In 2009, San Bernardino County’s Facilities Management Department installed rain sensors on all irrigation controllers. The rain sensors save water and labor by automatically shutting down and restarting irrigations systems during rain events. Overall, this program has the following advantages: it conserves water, saves money, reduces the wear on the irrigation systems, reduces disease damage to landscaping by over watering, reduces runoff, and protects groundwater and storm drains from pollutants.
