Category: Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

The Veteran’s Hall of Honor is a searchable database of up to 70,000 Pike County veterans. The County Fiscal Court donated the computer and equipment to get the program running, and the Judge’s staff inputs data into the program for every veteran who individually or whose family supplies them with a picture and biographical history. Currently, the Veteran’s Hall of Honor is displayed on the first floor of the Pike County Courthouse with a screen that displays one of almost 500 veterans’ pictures for 15 seconds on a rotational basis. Citizens may access information on a veteran by entering their name into the computer’s database. A screen appears with the veteran’s photo and biographical data, including branch of service, wars fought, and medals received.
