Recognizing that methane is a natural result from the decomposition of organic materials, Pike County Judge/Executive Wayne Rutherford, the Pike county Fiscal Court, Pike Countyâs Solid Waste Department, Energy and Community Development Director Charles Carlton and Jack Sykes of Summit Engineering developed a comprehensive and far-reaching landfill gas recovery project for Pike County. This is the first time the county government has addressed the possibility of capturing methane. This project is a platform of a plan to one day sell the captured methane to a utility company where it can then be put back into the grid and used as energy. The landfill gas recovery project will use eleven wells to capture methane created by decomposing waste at the County Landfill.
