This program is a partnership between Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. It was developed to introduce physical education teachers (Grades K-12) to non-traditional activities in several multidisciplinary subjects (health and fitness, science, math, and social studies) that can relate to their physical education curriculum. The hands-on training led participants in a variety of no/low cost outdoor recreation activities over two days. This unique collaboration provides the opportunity to conduct physical education classes on county greenways, parks, and nature preserves with the assistance and support of staff from the Park and Recreation Department. More than 280 teachers participated in the program, and these teachers will pass experiences along to their students.
