About the Program

Category: Health (Best in Category)

Year: 2012

Too often, the elderly population is overlooked in many county events, programs, and initiatives. In response, the St. Clair County Office on Aging holds an annual “Passport to Wellness” health fair for older county residents, including older county employees. The Office on Aging hosts the event with the cooperation of a variety of local entities, including hospitals, schools of nursing, and county agencies. The fair provides a wide range of screening stations, designed to assess various facets of physical and mental wellness, with a goal of providing pertinent information for participants to discuss with their health care providers. In addition, this activity provides information for a healthy life style. This program not only encourages the elderly to take on healthy habits, but it incorporates them into the community at a higher level than they otherwise would have experienced.
