The San Diego County Department of Child Support Services (SDDCSS) continuously strives to reduce “agency time” for its customers. This term refers to the time and effort spent interacting with multiple government agencies or community resources to access services. To achieve this goal, SDDCSS collaborates with both the Family Law Facilitator (FLF), an office of the Superior Court of California that helps unrepresented parties in need of legal assistance, and the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, a nonprofit law firm. Attorneys from both organizations hold office hours at least once a week at SDDCSS offices, where they assist child support customers at no cost. FLF staff meet with parents who have family-related or general legal questions or need assistance filling out court forms. The Legal Aid Society assists clients in obtaining healthcare coverage, addressing housing issues, and maintaining economic and physical stability. Having convenient legal assistance eases the burden on customers who would otherwise need to drive or find other means of transportation to multiple locations.
