Oakland County has abundant and diverse regional resources, including 13 County parks which are managed by Oakland county Parks and Recreation (OCPR). The County parks system has grown to more than 6,000 acres of natural landscape and outdoor recreation. The OCPR, in collaboration with the Oakland County Department of Information Technology (OCIT), has implemented a solution to expand the County’s network (OakNet) to remote areas of Oakland County Parks and Recreation locations. This was part of the OCPR’s plan to leverage County technology and use information technology solutions in the Parks and Recreation department. This solution involved linking each park’s primary T1 or fiber connection via point-to-point radio frequency to remote park locations. The expanded network gives OCPR the ability to increase the use of their applications. The collection and maintenance of asset data is managed centrally and shared across organizational units within Parks and Recreation.
