Each year, campers make South Florida their destination vacation spot to camp during the winter in order to escape the chilly temperatures farther north. Some move from campground to campground while others choose one site and stay permanently for several months. Broward County is one of the largest and most populous counties in Florida and offers a wide variety of parks amenities to service those who choose to utilize our Parks system as their annual destination. Many of the parks in Broward County are designated locations for recreational vehicle (RV) campers to set up base. Campers now expect wireless Internet access wherever they go. This service is no longer an added convenience amenity but instead a large part of daily activities while traveling. Extended stay campers are looking to stay connected whenever needed to surf the Internet, pay bills, and check email in the comfort of their RV. Although, most commercial RV parks are still charging for Wi-Fi services, the Broward County Parks Division moved towards offering Wi-Fi access free of charge. Campers do not want to be bothered with another hourly, daily, or monthly access fee when staying at a campsite and the all-inclusive reservation fee simplifies accounting for the camper and the Parks staff. Broward County began to realize an increasingly higher public demand for Wi-Fi services at their campgrounds. Broward County Enterprise Technology Services completed a project to implement free high-speed Wi-Fi at the areas of the campgrounds within the Parks, much to the satisfaction of the Parks patrons.
