The County of San Diego County Operations Center (COC) redevelopment project consolidates departments and offices in its central campus in Kearny Mesa to provide one stop public services, centralize administrative functions, vacate costly leases and replace aged buildings. The project began with the demolition of several existing buildings on the campus to allow construction of the first phase which was building two 150,000 square foot office structures, a new central plant and a seven-level parking structure for 1,800 vehicles. The second phase of construction included two additional 150,000 square foot office buildings and a 15,000 square foot Campus Center providing food service and public hearing facilities. A recently completed third phase provided a 118,500-square-foot facility for the Registrar of Voters and ancillary functions. Completion of the third phase vacated an annex property allowing its sale under the development agreement. The redevelopment project has been recognized as a model public facility expressing good design, high quality materials and astute use of public funds. The campus plan encourages interaction and provides opportunities to showcase the County programs and those of its partners. Citizens and staff take pride in this civic center.
