Category: Health (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

Operation Medicine Cabinet Cleanout is a program conceived to raise awareness and educate the residents of the County on the need to appropriately monitor and dispose of unused or expired prescription medication in order to reduce the incidence of misuse and abuse of prescription medication. Additionally, it supports the protection of the environment by educating residents on the appropriate disposal of medication, thereby preventing accidental poisoning of vulnerable residents. In response to national and local data tied to illicit prescription drug use, the Prevention Services Division, in partnership with County and private organizations, coordinated a campaign with several elements; distribution of informational flyers at local pharmacies, posters displayed at grocery stores and public offices, public service announcements for local television, pledge signing at area high schools, and creation of drop off points to collect unused and expired medication.
