The County of Los Angeles has approximately 539 publicly funded mental health provider site locations. These providers provide a wide array of specialty mental health services to the most populous County in the country (nearly 10 million residents) and are spread across 4,000 square miles of land. In 2012 nearly 17% of the county’s population lived at or below 100% Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and 38% lived at or below 200% FPL. Approximately 700,000 of the County’s population were estimated with a Serious Mental Illness (SMI) or Serious Emotional Disorder (SED) out of which 57% (400,000) are estimated to be living at or below 200% FPL. The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) serves approximately 250,000 unique consumers each year. These consumers receive more than 5 million specialty mental health services each year at approximately 539 provider locations. To increase access of these services to the public, consumers and providers, LACDMH developed an electronic Provider Directory to search for appropriate mental health services close to selected geographic locations in the County. As a result public and consumers can search for appropriate services with updated information and LACDMH providers and the 24/7 ACCESS Center can make timely and appropriate referrals.
