The Clerk of the Superior Court in Maricopa County (Clerk’s Office) implemented Online Payments in October 2020. This initiative provides online payment capabilities for customers to make payments via credit card and eCheck for 1) criminal fines, fees, reimbursement, and restitution, and 2) deferred filing fees and non-criminal court ordered fees. The Clerk’s Office partnered with an external vendor experienced in processing payments, Point & Pay (PnP), to implement an online payment portal within a few months in response to general customer need and to mitigate personal service interactions related to the pandemic. The result was an application and method of payment that is convenient and easy to use for the customer and complies with all regulatory standards and procedures for online payments made with credit cards or eChecks.Customers may now make payments from the safety of their home, via a mobile device or PC, eliminating the need to visit the Clerk’s Office or probation office in person. This has resulted in increased safety for employees and customers, shorter lines at the filing counters, and overall savings for both customers and the Clerk’s Office. The Billing & Deferral Unit has seen a 30% reduction in payment phone calls. In the first 5 months, over 16,600 payments totaling nearly $2.9 million have been paid via the online payment portal.
