In 2018, the County of San Diego’s (County) Department of Planning & Development Services (PDS) developed a new service to allow customers seeking permits for residential electric vehicle charging stations to quickly and easily obtain a permit online using a convenient, online public website. Previously these permits were only available by in-person service at the County Permit Center during standard business hours. This new service provides the public with a quick and convenient way to obtain required permits by entering basic information and immediately obtaining a permit without driving to County offices and waiting for staff to process the permit application. The program includes process automation allowing the County to save staff costs by eliminating manual processing and entry errors and omissions.
