The OneDeKalb Neighborhood Empowerment Initiative seeks to preserve and enhance neighborhoods, empower people to make positive contributions and bring government closer to its citizens. To do this, the program focuses on the provision of political and resource support, as well as empowerment innovations to support civic participation for neighborhood specific organizations. It aims to maintain a responsive and people centered government, promote neighborhood organizations that lead to sustainable development, and to inform and engage citizens to enhance the quality of personal and communal life. In the one short year since OneDeKalb was conceptualized, it has achieved success in rallying hundreds of neighborhood groups to participate actively and effectively in local affairs. Among other milestones, it launched the first annual Neighborhood Summit, a series of Neighborhood Budget Gatherings, and the opening of the OneDeKalb Resource Center.
