Year: 2013

Oakland County Children's Village now offers a new process by which youth are transitioned from residential placement back into the community. Children's Village received a federal grant (Second Chance Juvenile Offender Reentry Demonstration Grant) through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for the Second Chance Juvenile Reentry Initiative. Federal Funding for the program was eliminated in October of 2012; however, due to the initial success and strong belief in the philosophy of reentry, Children's Village developed a plan to continue the program. With the philosophy of "exit upon entry", all youth are engaged in reentry services immediately upon placement in a residential treatment program. Facility Case Coordinators work collaboratively with juvenile court workers, reentry personal, and community providers to address and plan for a youth's return home. The youth and families play a vital role in identifying needs, services and goals to ensure success with the ultimate goal of reducing recidivism. The Oakland County Reentry Process has provided services for approximately 136 youth since February 2011. Of those youth, 105 were tracked for violations requiring a return to the juvenile court system. Out of those youth, only 4 have returned to the juvenile court system due to technical violations of their probation.
