In November 2018, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) launched a new podcast series, CountyCast, to provide a new avenue to educate the public about how county government can be force for good in the community. CountyCast covers a wide range of county topics and features many prominent guests, including Presidential Historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning Author Doris Kearns Goodwin, who participated in CountyCastâs inaugural season. Episodes are released twice a month, and listeners can conveniently access them at www.ncacc.org/countycast, or on iTunes, Google Play, Soundcloud, or Spotify. The goal of CountyCast is to reach a broad audience by offering an easy, accessible platform that informs and entertains. NCACC staff produces the show completely in-house - NCACC Government Relations Director Amber Harris is the host and NCACC Creative Communications Coordinator Ben Christoph is the producer. The dynamic duo brings county government to life in a fun and animated way. As of March 2020, CountyCast has attracted nearly 3,000 unique plays across all episodes, averaging 100 plays per episode. Currently in its second season, CountyCast has covered popular topics such as âDoris Kearns Goodwin on Leadership - live from NCACC Annual Conference, How are public schools funded exactly? What do the 2018 elections mean for NC counties? How does the county work for me? What do negotiations look like at the General Assembly? How can counties promote foster/ adoptive services? How do counties in NC handle emergency management?â
