Year: 2017

This year the White Tank Branch Library started a partnership with NASA volunteer Linneth Lopez to bring NASA programming into the library. Ms. Lopez is a part of the NASA Solar System Ambassador program. The NASA/Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Solar System Ambassador (SSA) program is a network of volunteers from various walks of life who conduct outreach events to promote space exploration and space-related topics in our local communities. For 2017, there are 750 Ambassadors in 50 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Guam. NASA/JPL conducts monthly professional development events to provide volunteers with lectures and shareable knowledge. White Tank Branch Library hosted several outreach events for our customers in partnership with the Solar System Ambassador program. The first program we offered was Out of this World! Scott Kelly’s Year in Space. Due to popular demand, we hosted two sessions of this program during the summer. The second event was a viewing of the movie The Martian, followed by a Q & A session. The third outreach event was a series of story times, NASA Aeronautics for Pre-K; An Exploration of What makes Things Fly. Our next program will cover the Osiris-Rex Spacecraft.
