The Nanjemoy/Cobb Neck (NCN) Broadband Buildout is a multi-million-dollar project to construct and operate a 90-mile fiber optic network for two large, unserved rural areas in Charles County, Maryland. The buildout is a fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) solution and will provide the ability for over 1,400 residences and businesses to sign up for high-speed internet. The project involves the installation of approximately 1,000,000 feet of fiber optic cable, both on electrical poles and underground. The buildout will occur in 5 phases with residents able to sign up for service once their phase is completed. The entire project will be completed in August 2023. The NCN Broadband Buildout project is a true example of intergovernmental cooperation and coordination to provide a critical resident service, as Maryland State, Charles County Government, the ISP ThinkBig, and the non-profit Maryland Broadband Cooperative are all contributing towards its construction and implementation. To assist with overall project management, as well as timely and accurate communication with our residents, we have implemented new innovative data collection and mapping technologies.
